Government Teacher Training - The Various Options That You Have

Teaching, no doubt, is one of the most respectable and beneficial professions. It proffers constant cerebral stimulation and challenge and an opportunity to make a bit of difference in the lives of budding individuals. Government teacher training provides prospects for a good career in the field of teaching. Governments of various countries have put teachers at the center of their drive to upgrade the educational standards across the system of education.

Teachers play an extremely crucial role to raise educational standards, as they have the opportunity to teach and spread updated and of the latest knowledge to their students. The cultural and economical future of every country depends on the academic standard that has been achieved by its schools. Teachers are the tools to achieve the highest possible academic standards. Due to this, the governments today emphasize on training teachers through programs that they themselves have designed, to meet the specific requirements.

Nowadays, teachers are required to train under the qualified teacher status (QTS) program for teaching in schools that are State-maintained. This degree can be acquired through a choice for a course of ITT ( initial teacher training). After the completion of this program, one can opt for a main graduate route through an involvement in a course of PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education). A mature entrant can also train while on the job through the Graduate Teacher Program (GTP).

Governments provide teachers with training programs such as:

Course for training as primary teachers: Primary teachers are required to undertake a special Training School's Graduate Teacher Program that qualifies the teacher to work for government-aided schools or school sectors that are maintained by the government.

A course of Independent PGCE: The government provides independent Postgraduate Certificates of Education. The program has been developed after consultations with the HMC (Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference). The course offers to give training to those teachers who work in the private sector and have not undergone any formal teacher training. This is a 1-year program that is structured for the professional development of teachers.

The PGCE course combined with QTS: The Post Graduate Certificate of Education is now combined with the qualified teacher status (QTS). This program is offered to teachers that teach secondary school students in both independent and maintained sectors in Mathematics, English, History, and Science. The program follows a similar pattern as the independent PGCE program. It includes training that is school-based combined with a three-day meeting with the ministers of education in every term. It teaches trainees to become successful teachers in government and independent sector schools.

Government teacher training can be acquired by those who feel the urge and are keen to teach students. It is essential for students under this program to identify the responsibility that they would carry after they have actually becomes teachers, so that they understand the seriousness and importance of the role they would afterwards play in the life of young students.
