Montessori Teacher Training - An Introduction

A Montessori teacher training program teaches the Montessori teaching method to candidates, who have opted for the course and whose aspiration is to become Montessori teachers. This method is both, an educational methodology and a philosophy. Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian educator, developed this program in the early nineteenth century. According to her, the Montessori method has been designed after doing a complete study on children.

A course in Montessori teacher training can also be done via correspondence. These courses are made enjoyable for children by the inclusion of curriculum resources that are of high quality and in full color.

Each training course for Montessori teachers includes Montessori theory, developmental psychology of children, lectures by Montessori experts on practical experiences of teaching in the Montessori classrooms, and a chance to observe and practice teaching under the guidance of a government approved Montessori class teacher. These courses generally last for a period of one academic year. This is a full-time course, and it also offers students interim work as well.

Any adult, who has to take charge of children of a Montessori classroom and the environment in it, requires a preparation that is unique. This can be acquired through a program of Montessori teacher training. The course enables the teacher to understand the developmental needs of a child. This educational approach helps teachers to teach children through a pedagogy that is specially tailored to the needs and psychology of the children.
