New Methods Of Teacher TrainingTeaching is one of the most respected professions available today. However, it was not so much a popular profession in the past. But with the need for education and the spread of technology, education has become one of the most important aspects of a person's life. And as such new teacher training methods have come up. These methods have been developed through a consideration of the needs of the present day. These methods are adopted in most of the accredited teacher training schools in the United States. Some of the new methods adopted nowadays in teacher training are listed below; At the outset, trainees are provided with a document and therein are clearly mentioned the new roles of a teacher in the education process and also the new methods and techniques that would be used during the training period. Also, they are asked to also indicate whether they would apply the newer methods of teaching during their training period as well as in the future. After this, the trainees of teacher education are asked to do self-study in their respective subjects. Herein, the trainees can ask the instructors for help anytime they face any problem. Each trainee of teacher education is asked to do a project. Reports of this project are to be submitted at the end of the training period. This project reflects dedication, pursuit of excellence, and values that were sought to be earned throughout the training period. Apart from these, new teacher training methods involve a number of tests from time to time. These tests are conducted to assess whether the student has properly grasped the subject, whether the trainee has been able to attain the degree of proficiency, to encourage and stimulate the student to study even harder, and to develop the students interest in new areas. New training methods have also introduced a progress card so that a student can himself/herself track his/her own progress through it. This progress card is maintained by the trainee himself/herself and not by officials or instructors. This is a wonderful tool for self-evaluation. In the progress card, the student is required to write the names of all the books that he or she has read and also write the marks of the various tests that have been conducted from time to time. New teacher training methods also stress upon more exposure to practical classes, during the training period. Finally, at the end of the new teacher training period, the trainee is required to sit for a public examination. For this examination the trainee must acquire a testimonial from the head of the training institution to the effect that the prospective student, during his/her training period, had maintained the desired level of diligence, discipline, and punctuality. Further, the examination consists of a written as well as an oral test. |
